Colombian Independence Day...guess where I'm celebrating?

Whatever happened to "I just wanna be a musician!"

Email, emails, emails...the musicians, the producer, the venue, the sound guy, the publisher, the promoter, the press, the newsletter, the blog.....aaaahhh!! I should get a job as a secretary 'cause I'm getting pretty good at this. Writing music; not really a priority for musicians these days. Nope, you gotta get your shit together and then...one day...maybe...oh what a beautiful day that will be...when I'll be able to just think about the music, the songs, the harmony, the lyrics, the arrangements, the band, the show...well, that's what I signed for when I decided to be a musician...what happened? Anyone...

We're playing at the Prospect Park Bandshell! (Saturday July 24th, 4pm)

Have you ever been to the "Celebrate Brooklyn" concerts at the Prospect Park Bandshell? Well they are amazing and this year we're actually going to play in one of these! We've been invited by Grammy award-winning producer Andres Levin (Yerba Buena, Cucu Diamantes, Juanes, Aterciopelados) to be part of this unique show which will combine music and art and it will take place on Saturday July 24th at 4:00pm at the Prospect Park Bandshell. This show brings many musicians and artist together for a night of great energy and great vibe that you simply can't miss! The line up of artist includes: Les Nubians, Groove Collective, Yerba Buena, Cucu Diamantes, Monsta X, Raven O, Dafnis Prieto and more. I will also be playing accordion with one of the other bands after I play with the big band.

Tomorrow's outdoor show CANCELED

Tomorrow's show at Waterside Plaza (Manhattan) was just canceled due to "extreme temperature". I was looking forward to this but what are you gonna do...Last summer we had two shows canceled due to rain, this year because of the heat, next year who knows! Anyway, I'll be keeping you posted for next show very soon. Thanks for your constant support and I'm sorry about this.

Another awesome stranger in the city

Half an hour ago I got to the Jamaica Station to catch the Long Island Rail Road and leave the city for the 4th of July weekend. I got there early so I walked around and thought I grab something to eat and, of course, I ended up going into the "chicken-sandwich- fries-and-soda-all-for-$4.60-place"...does that conflict with me going to the hamptons for the weekend?! You tell me...

Anyway, when I sat down a man sat next to me and said "I think I know where I recognize you from". At that point I'm guessing he's gonna say something like...well I wasn't sure what he would say but I thought we was gonna say something random just to start one of those awkward, but every now and then interesting, subway conversations. And as I look at him skeptically waiting for him to make up something he says: "you have an amazing big band" (the word he used wasn't "amazing" but it was something good...which is what got me exited and is why I'm wasting my time, and yours, by writing this small anecdote.)

So this man actually had been to the "encounter of colombian musicians" a few weeks ago and saw us perform there. He's been reaserching african music and its diaspora in the Americas. He knows pretty much all of the outdoor shows that happen in the city and we had such a pleassent converstion. Unfortunately we didn't have too much time to talk as I had to run to the LIRR but I'm sure I'll be seeing Kevin again.

So, this is just another proof that this city is both huge and tiny at the same time. (Sorry for the spelling mistakes...I don't know how to work the spell check on my phone)
