As the Cumbia movement in New York City keeps growing, different bands with different approaches to this infectious rhythm begin collaborating and creating a solid Cumbia scene. The Gregorio Uribe Big Band, which performs the first Thursday of every month as Zinc Bar in the G reenwich Village, has announced that they will invite Brooklyn-based funky Cumbia-band Cumbiagra to open their show this Thursday April 7th. With a total of four members that look like they just came back from a day at the beach, Cumbiagra provides a contrast with Gregorio Uribe’s 16-piece ensemble and it’s jazz-influenced arrangements, but they have two things in common: they both love Cumbia and they’re both masters of at making the dance floor happen.

About Cumbiagra (www.cumbiagra.com): Cumbiagra is a Brooklyn, New York-based collective of musicians dedicated to making the dance floor happen. Since their creation in the summer of 2008, Cumbiagra has been hosting legendary dance parties throughout New York’s Lower East Side, Brooklyn,
Mexico and beyond. A typical Cumbiagra set might start with a slow, dirty cumbia, dip into a kinky reggae, then explode into a scorching merengue-ska, or a sexy salsa, before returning to their infectious cumbia style. Whatever they are playing, it is sure to please.
