Tu Barrio (acoustic song)

Yesterday we had such a nice weather here in NYC so I decided to go for a run. When I came back I was feeling so good that I decided to record one of my songs so I could share it with you guys. Its called "Tu Barrio" ("Your Neighborhood") and it talks about a man who decides to move to the neighborhood where his loved one lives. He talks about how perfect things will be now that they'll live closer to each other, but then (he says)     "there is only one problem: its been more than three months since we talk, its been a lifetime since you've forgotten me..." Hope you enjoy it.

Kids Show at Roosevelt Island

These last few months I worked with Pablo and Anna Mayor from Folklore Urbano on a "colombian music residency" at a school in Roosvelt Island, NYC. It consisted of working with 2nd grade students on a weekly basis and teaching them about colombian rhythms, dances, instruments and more. At the end we put together a show with them which you will see on the the footage. Although it wasn't always easy, it was such a fun experience working with these kids!

Malika

Last night I went to see an amazing singer with an amazing band at Zinc Bar. Her name is Malika Zarra and she's from Morroco. If you get a chance to check her out do so, you won't regret it! Such happening groove and such beautiful dynamics.

To my surprise the percussionist was Satoshi Takeishi. This man is a one of the most musical drummers I ever heard. I used to transcribe his playing when I was in Berklee listening to Antonio Arnedo's music and I finally got to meet him last night! This Japanese musician is one of the best interpreters of Colombian rhythms (and of hundreds of other rhythms for that matter).

Aside from the magic of constantly running into master musicians in small live shows (last week was Eric Clapton, Roger Waters and Steve Gadd), there is also another kind of magic here: Everytime I see a show in this city I come out of there feeling that I want to play and write music like the one I just heard. There is so much great material that you just wish you had ten more lives just to learn to play every instrument and every style...

Gregorio focus! You've got a big band to take care of. Don't get distracted by all the good music around.

Solo show tonight - Le Caire Lounge

Tonight I'm playing solo at Le Caire Lounge, a small intimate Egyptian lounge on the east Village. As you can imagine I'm not playing Egyptian music (not that I could if I tried...hehe). I'll be playing some of my songs as well as some classic boleros, bossa novas, samba, rumbas and more. The place is really chill and there is no cover. You can smoke some "shisha" (or "hooka")) and sit on some low cushioned sits and enjoy some mellow music with just guitar and vocals.

I'll play one set starting around 8pm and if the is enough people left I'll play another one around 9:30pm. Here is the info:
